2009 ASHA Workshop - Cancelled
March 30, 2009
ASHA Partner,
I wanted to inform you of some upcoming changes in ASHA staffing and the subsequent cancellation of our planned October 2009 workshop.
Carmelita Maness will soon be leaving ASHA to take a long term assignment with USAID in Juba, South Sudan. Carmelita has worked with you and many other prospective applicants and has been with AHSA for seven years. She has been an instrumental part of this office and has been invaluable in the review of applications, the monitoring of grants and with numerous internal bureaucratic activities. In Juba, Carmelita will be a General Development Officer and will work with a wide range of development projects. She will be missed yet I’m very happy she has this opportunity and wish her well with her future work. It is expected that she will depart from Washington, DC the latter part of April. Should you wish to reach her, Carmelita will leave a forwarding e-mail address.
I will be leaving USAID and am scheduled to enter a “transitioning-out” program the first of August 2009 and expect to leave USAID the end of September.
We scheduled a grantees workshop for October 2009, discussed it with some and announced it on our web site. I once felt replacements for Carmelita and me would be known by mid-summer and the new staff would be able to take over planning and coordination of the workshop. I’m now uncertain as to the timing or even the identity of our replacements. Unfortunately, because of this uncertainty, I think it best to cancel this October 2009 ASHA workshop. I’m concerned the new staff would be here with insufficient time to prepare for this workshop which could suffer as a result.
As our replacements are selected we will notify you as well as the date of the rescheduled workshop.
I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion and ask that you forward this message to the appropriate individual within your organization.
With regards,
George Like
Division Chief/ASHA
